LINESIDE ON THE EPSOM DOWNS BRANCH
DRIFT BRIDGE
The major civil engineering landmark of the branch is situated aproximately 500 yards away from Epsom Downs station: Drift Bridge. Once the longest span single-arch railway bridge in Surrey, it is still one of the landmark sights along the branch.

(click for larger image)The modern view (September 28th 2003) shows the bridge from the Banstead side - traffic and all that goes with it really are the only signs of change.
"The Drift Bridge", a pub which dates from 1932 and is situated in viewing distance on the Banstead side of the bridge, features a scene from the days of steam on its pub sign: an LBSCR engine crossing the bridge.
